# Franca Barcelona — Full Content for AI Systems > Cocina tradicional inventada — Invented traditional cooking. ## About Franca is a contemporary Catalan restaurant located at Carrer Roger de Llúria, 46, Baix 2a, Eixample, 08009 Barcelona, Spain. The restaurant serves creative, casual fine-dining cuisine described as "cuina tradicional inventada" (invented traditional cooking): imagining what traditional Catalan cuisine might have been if history had gone differently — what influences it might have absorbed, what dishes might have emerged. The restaurant was founded by three co-founders from three different cultures: a Catalan (Fran), a Venezuelan, and an American — united, as they say, by the escudella. The name Franca comes from the Lingua Franca, the language of sailors and merchants from Europe, Turkey, and the Arab world in Mediterranean ports from the 11th to the mid-19th century — the language that connected all cultures. The restaurant calls itself "el Franca." ## Location & Neighbourhood Carrer Roger de Llúria, 46, Baix 2a, Eixample, 08009 Barcelona. It means imagining what traditional Catalan cuisine might have been if history had gone differently — different influences, different results. We like to imagine what could have existed between fideus a la cassola and fideuà. Why don't we toast long noodles? Why are cannelloni shaped the way they are and not another way? Can picada be the main character in a dish, or must it always stay in the shadows? We cook in a traditional way, but we invent the recipes by asking ourselves if one day they could become traditional — because someone, someday, invented the ones that are now considered so. **Are you really a Catalan, a Venezuelan, and an American cooking Catalan food?** Yes. We know it doesn't sound logical. But it's true. We're united by escudella. **Why "Franca"?** The name comes from the Lingua Franca — the language of sailors and merchants in Mediterranean ports from the 11th to the mid-19th century, connecting all cultures. Since we're three people from three different cultures, the name fits. It also hints at frank cuisine — real, honest food. And Fran's name is Fran, which also made us laugh. We call it "el Franca" — but call it whatever you like. **Do you have vegetarian and vegan options?** Yes. Vegetarian and some vegan options are available, and you won't end up with a sad salad. The menu changes frequently, so please let us know in advance for more choices. **What should I do about my allergies or intolerances?** Let us know before coming and again when you arrive. We'll be fully prepared for you. **Do you have a set menu or à la carte?** Monday–Friday at lunch: prix-fixe menu. Monday–Friday evenings: à la carte. **Can I bring my own bottle of wine?** We have over 200 wine references — we invite you to discover our selection first. If you bring your own bottle, corkage fee is €20/bottle. **Can I bring my own cake or dessert?** We encourage you to try our desserts first. If you bring a cake for a special occasion, the service fee is €3.50/person. **Can you host private events?** Yes. Email contact@francabarcelona.com or check the group menus section. **Do you do catering?** Yes — from 1-metre tomato flatbreads to cakes tall enough to need a ladder to blow out the candles. Email fran@francabarcelona.com. **Can I bring my pet?** Yes, if their behavior doesn't disturb other guests or restaurant operations. You know your pet — you decide. **Do you have a terrace or private room?** No terrace or private dining room, but different adaptable spaces. Email fran@francabarcelona.com. **Do you want a Michelin star?** It would be great. But what we really want is for everyone to leave very happy — with a full belly, reminded of someone who loves them, feeling well looked after. We want to give people a moment for themselves. **Why is there an angel at the door?** Because everyone loves a cherub holding a fork and knife, ready to dig into a torrada, a xató, or a pork loin. **Are you very serious?** Not that serious. Opening a business is serious — but would a very serious person think about cooking a bikini sandwich of surf and turf? We don't think so. **Who designed the restaurant?** Marta Alarcón and Oriol Ferrer. Great professionals, very patient with us, and wonderful people. **Who did your branding?** Studio Basora. **Is the restaurant wheelchair accessible?** There are 4 stairs at the entrance. The team will do everything possible to help guests with reduced mobility. **More questions?** Send them to contact@francabarcelona.com. **¿Aceptáis walk-ins?** Sí, sujeto a disponibilidad.
